The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) ‘s Institute for Economic Advancement (IEA) is accepting applications for the following positions:

Senior Research Professor of Economics / State Economic Forecaster.

Main duties include maintaining, operating the state econometric model, publishing quarterly forecasts in the Arkansas Economic Outlook and presenting the state forecast at the semiannual forecast conferences.  A PhD degree in economics is required, experience with applied econometrics and urban or regional economics preferred, oral and written communication skills are necessary to present analytical results to general business, governmental audiences, and the press.

Economic Development Research Specialist

Two positions as an Economic Development Research Specialist. Primary responsibilities include assistance in a combination of the following (depending on the candidate's expertise): developing and/or coordinating programs in the Institute's Center for Economic Development Education; teaching in the Center's short courses; conducting local and regional economic development assessments, and facilitating economic development strategic planning support for localities and regions in Arkansas. Qualifications include a Masters Degree preferred, and preferably at least 5 years of experience and demonstrated competence in some combination of the primary responsibilities. Programmer

The UALR Institute for Economic Advancement is looking for a qualified programmer who is proficient in a research environment. The position requires the creation of new code as well as maintaining existing code.  The applicant should possess an excellent knowledge of database systems (MySQL, Access, SQL Server) as well as the ability to maintain server side applications. This position will involve full product life-cycle development from design to development to testing and support.

The ideal applicant will have the following qualifications:
  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or Management Information Systems
  • Excellent in Excel and Access
  • 1+ years of HTML, CSS and JavaScript experience
  • 1+ years of PHP/ASP development experience
  • Data modeling/database design experience
  • Statistics, Economics, or Demographics knowledge a strong plus
  • Experience with Analytical Modeling a plus

The qualified applicant must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  The applicant must be able to demonstrate that they are self-motivated, and be able to work in a team environment.

Regional Economist

The position entails providing economic support for our regional economic research activities and participation in the design, completion, and presentation of regional analysis projects.  Applicants should be adept at applied economic analysis, be familiar with IMPLAN, REMI, impact models, econometrics, and other tools of regional economic development research. Demographic analytical skill and knowledge of economic development issues are both pluses. Excellent writing ability; knowledge and experience with grant writing; and good interpersonal skills are expected.

Qualifications
The Regional Economist must be able to work with a multi-functional professional staff that serves a broad and diverse client base.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Knowledge of economics and finance
  • Knowledge and understanding of economic or community development
  • Excellent public relations skills
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to provide leadership in a team environment

Experience with EDA or other development agencies preferred, as is experience with or knowledge of other IEA client groups.  A minimum of a Masters degree is expected.
